Part of a Truly Global Company
As a member of the Daimler family, Daimler Trucks North America is part of a diverse global company. Daimler is the world's fifth largest automotive company, with more than 380,000 employees worldwide. Daimler markets some of the best known and respected brands and is the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world.
The company's history with Daimler traces back to 1981, when Freightliner Corporation was acquired by Daimler-Benz of Stuttgart, Germany. Access to the technological and financial strength of Daimler-Benz helped propel Freightliner to leadership of the North American heavy-duty market in just over a decade. Then, in 1998, Daimler-Benz merged with Chrysler Corporation creating a truly global company and providing Freightliner with an even greater resource.
In 2007, Daimler sold the majority interest in Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management, L.P., a private-equity company based in New York. This sale allowed Daimler to again focus on the premium vehicle segments represented by the Mercedes Car Group and the Truck Group in addition to the important and related Financial Services activities.
Today, Daimler vehicles are sold in more than 200 countries. Daimler's brands are distinctly positioned and combined to create a powerful product portfolio. There is a companywide exchange of best practices; at the same time, the unique character of each brand is safeguarded. Daimler's strategy rests on four pillars: global presence, strong brands, broad product range and technology leadership.
Daimler Trucks North America benefits tremendously from Daimler's global presence. Not only does the relationship provide access to engines, transmissions and other components made by Daimler businesses, but it allows for sharing of research and development resources, plant technologies, and manufacturing and financial expertise.
Daimler Truck Financial, based in Lisle, Illinois, is a leading provider of financial solutions. Daimler Truck Financial offers a wide variety of financing options for commercial vehicle operators.
Daimler Trucks North America remains integral to the success of Daimler's worldwide commercial vehicle strategy. Daimler Trucks North America brands serve the key NAFTA truck market, one of the largest truck markets in the world, and are sold in over 35 countries around the world. Daimler Trucks North America accounts for a significant portion of Daimler's heavy- and medium-duty vehicle unit sales and revenues. Alongside Mercedes-Benz trucks, Setra Buses and Orion Buses, Daimler Trucks North America brands help form the foundation of Daimler's global commercial vehicle leadership.
