Sustainability

Committing to Our Environment for Future Generations

Embraced throughout the organization at all levels and locations, this pledge takes many forms. It means not only producing environmentally friendly vehicles, but also making sure that we manufacture them in an environmentally responsible manner, conserving energy and reducing waste in every way possible.

Clean Drive Technologies

Daimler Trucks North America leads the way in developing alternative fuel and hybrid commercial vehicle options. Every advancement represents a substantial increase in fuel economy and reduction of CO2 emissions, paving the way to a cleaner environment.

Clean Drive Technologies

As the leading truck manufacturer in North America, we believe we have an obligation to fully implement known technologies surrounding alternative, cleaner-burning fuels for commercial vehicles. Through our Freightliner, Freightliner Custom Chassis, and Thomas Built brands, Daimler Trucks North America has focused its efforts on developing an extensive range of alternatively fueled vehicles. With technologies ranging from clean-burning diesel to full-electric drive, customers can choose the right solutions to meet their specific needs.

Reducing Our Footprint

1,560 solar panels at the Freightliner manufacturing plant in Cleveland, NC produce enough energy to power approximately 38 homes.

Reducing Our Footprint

Our Zero-Waste-to-Landfill initiative exemplifies our commitment to reduce, reuse, and recycle all materials received or produced in the manufacturing process. Our goal is for all of our manufacturing plants to achieve this status, and two plants already have. Meanwhile, we’ve reduced electricity usage by 18 percent at our plants through various energy conservation initiatives. Renewable energy has also been a key focus at several of our plants, which have installed solar panels through partnerships with local utilities.

Partnering For a Better Future

Our involvement in sustainable practices goes beyond our operations. Through partnerships and dialogues with key government agencies (such as the EPA), policy makers, and scientists, we’ve achieved ISO 14001 certification in all our vehicle manufacturing sites. The achievement helps us develop best practices that lead the way for our business and the industry at large. Many of our plants and offices have also been recognized for environmental achievements in their local communities.
